2 DVD's for the price of ONE.  PLUS a CD with PDF instructional files.  A 4L60E rebuilding video and the Sonnax Valve body issues DVD and a CD with PDF instructional files AND the ONE tool you need to disassemble and rebuild your GM transmission.    These play on a Computer DVD - not a home movie player

This one is for someone who is SERIOUSLY, ABSOLUTELY going to rebuild their transmission.  It includes a Snap Ring Pliers set with four interchangeable heads and one specially angled head for removing the tricky snap ring behind the front planetary you need to get off to even replace the Sunshell, AND instructions on how to accomplish all the rest of the tranny rebuild WITHOUT ANY MORE SPECIAL TOOLS shown in the video.

It ALSO includes a full parts list and transmission upgrade instructions from SONNAX on the 700R4/4L60.  It also includes extra still pictures of the rebuild process.  SO . . .  the only tool you will need other than your common tools - is this Snap Ring Plier set included.  It also includes a special upgrade parts list to upgrade the 700R4 to a 4L70 (non-E) as well as some High Performance must have parts - at a price so low we will not publicize it.  You order it from us and we drop ship it direct from the supplier at wholesale - cheaper than buying the parts here on eBay from others.

We offered this because Shipping the extra information alone - or International shipping - cost more and for no more cost due flat rate weight, we could include the Snap Ring Plier set.

Plays on computer DVD players.  In reality - you only need ONE special tool - a snap rings pliers - to get this tranny apart and rebuild it. If you want to replace all the bushings - then ALSO a bushing driver set - which if you want to know how - I can sell you both - with instructions on how to do it without the special tools in a listing you can ask me to put up AFTER and IF you buy this one AFTER you watch the video and see what special tools are supposed to be used.  I would include then a list of high performance things you can get to improve the longevity of the tranny and under heavy duty use.  None of that above is included in this listing - only the two DVD's

Seeing as how the 4L60E - introduced in 1993, means, 4 forward speeds, L = longitudinally mounted (rear wheel drive), 60 is the strength rating, E = electronically computer controlled.  The 700R4 is the same transmission, just not electronically controlled.

In 1990, the 700R4 was renamed the 4L60. Under the new designation, the "4" stands for the number of forward gears, the "L" for longitudinal applications (rear-wheel-drive), and the "60" is supposed to relate to the relative torque capacity.

Since the 4L60-E derives its designation from its specifications: 4-speeds, Longitudinally positioned, 6000 lbs. GVW, Electronically controlled, although the transmission sees factory service in trucks up to 8600 lbs, so in essence this other site is essentially saying the BEAST and other improvements make the 700R4 transmission 12,000 pound capable.

1992 was the last year of wide spread usage of the 700R4 (4L60).   BUT . . . they are the same transmission basically all the way up to the 4L70E.

1993 Camaro, Corvette & Typhoon were equipped with the last production 700R4's, also the last design change of the 700R4 with an added checkball to the valve body.  (See item 4 above of problems)  If you have a pre 1993 ECM, like a 1227749 ECM (the Typhoon and Syclone ECM) this is the tranny you MUST use – the 700R4.

For those of you who do not know, the Syclone and Typhoon was the last port type fuel injection ECM that was boost aware for turbo or supercharging a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine from GM.  (NOT Throttle Body Injection)  I am excluding the supercharged V-6's because I said 4,6 or 8 cylinder - meaning that 12277449 ECM could be used for all three engine cylinder types.

In 1992 electronic controls were added and it became the 4L60-E. The 4L60E went into service in trucks, vans, and SUVs in 1993 (for the record, some HD trucks had the 4L60) and in all RWD passenger cars (Corvette, F and B/D bodies) in 1994.

In 2001, an updated version — the 4L65-E, was introduced. Five-pinion rear planetary, along with a strength-improved output shaft, were improved to withstand the 300+ ft·lb (400+ N·m) of torque of the 6.0 Vortec engine.

In 2006 a five-pinion front planetary, was added and it was then called the 4L70E.  (announced October 7, 2005 by GM)
